You've combed the carpet stores, hunted down the best carpet sales, and finally found the perfect carpeting for your vision of what your home should be. Congratulations! Now, all you need to do is get ready for the big installation!
A lot of people, especially first-time remodelers, start to get a little panicky as the day approaches. They want everything to go well, and want to be prepared for the big day. Sometimes, in their excitement, people go way overboard with their preparations. As much as our installation crew appreciates the extra effort, there really isn't a whole lot you have to worry about to get ready for their arrival.
Here are the basic things you need to do to prepare for the big installation day:
Hide the Pets and Children
The work-site can be a pretty dangerous place. That's why it's important to make sure that any household pets or children be kept away from the work zone as much as possible. Consider sending the kids off for a day with friends or family, to avoid any complications or possible danger. If your children are old enough to be told about the dangers involved, and why they need to stay away from the site, explain the situation and tell them why they need to keep their distance.
Since you can't really reason with pets, unlike children, try to find an out of the way area where they can be contained, until the work is finished.
Clear the Clutter
It's best for everyone involved if the crew can go straight to work as soon as they arrive on site. This saves you labor costs, and allows the crew to concentrate on the task at hand. So, it's important to make sure that any room where work will be done is free of clutter on the floor. Children's toys, pet toys, shoes, or any other possible hindrance to the smooth operation of the site, should be removed before the crew arrives to ensure timely service.
Outlets!
Your crew is going to need easy access to power outlets to run their equipment. Just give your crew the heads up about where to find any outlets that might be useful in their work, before they begin. Also, make sure that anything plugged into the pertinent outlets, is removed for the duration of the project.
